Trinity Turtles
There’s a wonderful band of retirees at Trinity Beach who keep the gardens on the foreshore full of vibrant colour. (Graham and I provide the muscles when required.) Yesterday we had a birthday barbie to celebrate the birthdays amongst the group in August. It was a windy but glorious day in paradise and I even [...]
First Wednesday Book Club
I laughed so much last night my stomach still aches this morning. Who knew a book club meeting could be so entertaining? What a wonderful way to discuss books and writing plus anything vaguely connected to that, which means everything was fair game The catering was wonderful, the company entertaining and I’ve come away with [...]
Heading west
If I don’t feel like a walk on the beach in the morning there’re always the hills and the paddocks. A large mob of roos call this field home and the horses who share it with them are amiable sorts. I love the way the cloud pours down the sides of the mountains at this [...]
Fly, be free
Shattered Sky has been released. We had a fabulous party at Glaskins Gallery on Friday night. Garry, Lyn, Jason, Karen and Chrissie were wonderful hosts, as they were last year. Kerstin and Lexi from Collins Booksellers at Smithfield set up a lovely display of Shattered Sky and Wings of Fear (Border Watch). Chris Chua’s beautiful [...]
New media
Life is settling down again after Yasi. Think I may even have a slight hang-over this morning from drinking too much champagne with friends last night to celebrate being alive and well… (Oh and Chinese New Year – I’m a rabbit so this is MY year!) For me this cyclone has been a very different [...]
Aftermath
The high tide this morning meant there was a likelihood of some low-level flooding in Cairns. I believe Machans Beach saw water over its rock wall. At Trinity the waves were chaotic, but they only delivered sand higher up the beaches. I think the Life Guard Hut will still be there tomorrow Vasey Esplanade was [...]
And the sun rises after Yasi
Trinity Beach seems to have survived Cyclone Yasi with minimal damage. There’s a lot of vegetation down, some awnings missing, broken fences and debris everywhere, but the sea hasn’t inundated any of the low lying areas. We still have power and, more amazingly, phone and internet. Friends higher up the hill slopes of Trinity Beach [...]
And so it continues
The plants are in – who knew we had so many… The glass pool fence is wrapped up like a giant Christmas present and I’ve just been on mid-west NSW ABC radio chatting about Yasi!
Family
My elderly mum (she’s 88!) is visiting from Brisbane. She was unwell at the start of the year and couldn’t be in Cairns for the launch of Border Watch. I missed having her there as she and Dad were so integral in developing my love of books and writing. Today we had coffee at Glaskins [...]
Trinity Picininis
There’s something very engaging about small children intent on their artwork. A tongue sticking out of the corner of a mouth, the furrowed forehead of concentration, the tunnel vision required to get that curved line just right. So absorbed are they, you can speak to them and they don’t hear you. It’s not that they [...]
