RWA Brisbane Conference

Whew! Have made it home to Cairns after a hectic weekend in Brisbane at the 2009 RWA conference. What a wonderful uplifting three days it’s been. As usual, the social whirl was exhausting, the training sessions were full of “light bulb” moments and the key note speaker, Mary Jo Putney, was inspiring.

Five years after attending my first conference with RWA, I was thrilled to be there as a ‘soon to be’ published author. While my books may not be pure romance I have learnt so much of my craft from these conferences. Along with the support of authors such as Bronwyn Parry, Anna Campbell and Tracy O’Hara the RWA has been instrumental in providing great opportunities to learn and grow in my writing.

Catching up with Bernadette Foley, from Hachette Australia,  made the whole publishing process seem much more real. My understanding of the process my book still has to go through before it hits the shelves in March has grown exponentially – I now fully appreciate the hard work is just beginning!

Once I beat my website software back into submission I’ll post some photos of the Friday night cocktail party. Right now I’m off to get some sleep before flying to Weipa tomorrow morning at 6.00 am. Better get my mindset back into pilot mode..
