We planted a pair of Golden Penda over five years ago on our front footpath. For five years they haven’t flowered, barely a flash of a yellow between them. Now, after the rain, they are making up for lost time.
The birds love them. So do I π

Happy bird

The bird pictured is a metallic starling. The white breast indicates it is a juvenile (adults are all black). They look very much like spangled drongos … but drongos are a little bigger and have the characteristic tail plumes.
Thanks, MB! Appreciate the bird identification tips. I didnβt realise metallic starlings were quite so big. The trees are just about to have a much needed prune but Iβm sure theyβll be back in flower again π
Hope you didn’t forget to chase the crocs out before you mowed, Helene. π
I’m not sure Sandy. I don’t think it’s a drongo because we have those too. Just about to head out before the next rain period comes through, wade through my grass and attempt to take a couple of inches off it… It’s a swamp…
What a good idea about catching up in Melbourne! Happy to be there if you ladies are keen π
Hope you don’t mind me speaking on your behalf, Helene! π
Hey Helene,
Is that a drongo of some sort? We used to get spangled drongos, but they are all black with a fluted tail.
The lawn doesn’t look like it’s doing too bad either!
Hey Cathy, how’s things? Helene and I will be down in Melbourne in August for the Romance Writers Australia conference. It’d be great if we could catch up. Of course finding time on both sides could be a challenge. π
Nice!
