Library Lovers

This morning a dedicated band of readers braved the rain and wind in Cairns to visit Smithfield library for a  National Year of Reading author chat with me.

Thanks to Sivan and her team of librarians (they are so different to the librarians who had me terrified into submission when I was a child!) for hosting the event along with a delicious morning tea.

It was wonderful to see the library so busy and full of children. It still takes me a little while to feel relaxed when I’m talking in a library since the idea of being quiet around books is deeply ingrained. Thanks to everyone who attended and for being such great listeners!  I’m looking forward to meeting more readers at Gordonvale Library on Saturday 2nd June 🙂

  1. It did, Sandy! And the librarians are delightful at Smithfield so I shouldn’t have been worried about it!!

One of the ladies who came along for the talk told me when she travels she always visits libraries along the way because the atmosphere is always so uplifting for her. May have to adopt that myself!

  2. LOL, Helene, it must have taken great courage and determination to speak in something louder than a soft voice! 🙂 I’m not sure I could do it.

But don’t you just love libraries? The magic seems to seep out of the books and permeate the air.

I have some very fond memories of the library near us when we were in Cairns.

  3. Lovely to meet you, Samantha. Hope you enjoy Wings of Fear!

All the best with your own writing. Congrats on taking that first step in the publishing world! It can be daunting but very, very rewarding.

  4. Thanks for your time this morning Helene, I really enjoyed your talk and the feedback session. I’m about to download Wings of Fear and thought I’d drop you a quick note. I’ll let you know when I’m finished. looking forward to a great read👍
