A new direction and a Christmas giveaway!!

Celebrations all round!!!

I’ve finally taken a huge leap and today is launch day for my first ever book video promotion – a very big thank you to the crew at Trailermade Productions for doing such a great job of capturing the essence of Half Moon Bay. And how very cool that the sound track was inspired by Zeus the Salty Sea dog!

Since Christmas is just around the corner I’m celebrating the launch with a giveaway (and the odds are way better than Gold Lotto!) To go into the draw to win a signed copy of all my books plus a kobo-mini complete with its own customised e-reader bean bag, you simply need to share the video, like my author page (or tell me you already have if you’re one of those lovely people who follow my posts) then send me an email at heleneyoung01@gmail.com telling me why you’d like to win the pack! If you’re the winner then feel free to share the love around and I’ll send them as a gift for you to give to Β a friend or loved one for Christmas.

The competition is only open to Australian residents (sorry to my overseas friends…) and closes on the 12th December so I can post in time to beat the Christmas rush. The winner will be notified by email on the 13th December.

So without further ado here’s Half Moon Bay’s video (make sure you click full screen for maximum effect!)

I’d love to hear what you think.

And here’s the prize pack πŸ™‚

  1. Hi Helene,
Congratulations on the trailer! It’s so reflective of your style, your story telling & it draws you in – just like your wonderful books!
    Well done xx

  2. Brenda, I’m just finishing off the copy edits so it won’t be long before it’s an ARC:) Safe Harbour is listed for release on 31st March – that’s Mum’s birthday so another auspicious day!

  3. Helene

    Heken

  4. Hello again Helene and everyone.

Many thanks once more for the compliments on the Trailer for Half Moon Bay.

The soundtrack was carefully considered … Sound has a lot to do with the ‘sell’ of any trailer/video presentation. Also, there are a couple of subtle links to the book in the trailer that you may have picked up.

One is as Ellie runs away from us, there’s a bird flying from left to right of the screen, and if you look on the cover of Half Moon Bay itself … well, anyone see the birdie? This is an example Trailermade attention to detail. There are other subtle links like this to the book … can you spot them?

It was great to give Helene a product that was cohesive with the book, was within a realistic price scale (which is important for authors) and had the right kind of pull that is similar to the book itself.

    Have a great day all,

    Cheers, Gabrielle @ Trailermade

  5. Thanks Sandy and Nas. I’m delighted with the finished product πŸ™‚ Look forward to making many more with Gabrielle and the Trailermade Productions team!!

  6. Wow, this is so cool. I love the trailer. It conveys the suspense and beachside theme well. Of course, I already love the book, but the trailer is extra exciting!

  7. The music goes well with the trailor. I thought Id noticed the view on the slide as well. The ocean – beach.

Great trailor – The music put an edge to it . – Suspenseful.

πŸ˜‰ I enjoy checking out book trailors – they are a tease however πŸ˜‰ lol
    Makes u want more

  8. Heading overseas for christmas and feel the best way my family can understand the love I have for my new country is through the words of you Helene, you bring the whole FNQ lifestyle to life, reading your books brings the whole area to life in a way my words could never express. Reading your books I can close my eyes znd live your heroine’s stories…..they make my mundane existent worth living

  9. It was a wonderful learning experience for me, Gabrielle. So much thought goes into the beat, changing images and addition of the words. I got the hang of it eventually but it was great to have an expert keeping the discussions on track.

The fact we could work to my budget was also a huge bonus – that was part of the reason I’d shied away from doing trailers previously πŸ™‚

Most importantly I love the trailer!

  10. Hello again Helene and to all commenters who’ve joined in the on the trailer launch’s celebration.

Thank you for your lovely compliments on the Half Moon Bay Trailermade Trailer. It was a great project to work on and great to work with and for Helene.

It was done to a brief – something Helene had full say – to her desire. A spruik type (but not a straight one) the trailer is a cinematic ‘shown not tell’. Trailers take many forms, interviews (which Trailermade also does) teasers, serials (lots of little exposition revealers and a few more…) You are limited only by your imagination.

The upcoming Safe Harbour Trailer focuses heavily one very important moment in the book … there’s not even a single note of music (but lots of sound!!!!!) on that one!!!

From my understanding, the beaches featured in the Half Moon Bay Trailer are the far north coast of NSW, Australia – which is rather appropriate I think!!! πŸ˜‰

Glad to have been able to share Half Moon Bay with you all via the screen. You are of course all welcome to come to the Trailermade website for a look at more trailers that have been done – and if you’re looking for a trailer for yourself, some pricing details are on the site… of course, we can chat to you about what you might perhaps like for your book.

    Have a great day all,

    Gabrielle

  11. Thanks, Sarah:)
I organised to have this one made. I don’t know any publishers in Australia who are providing them at the moment. They tend to do interview style videos. It was a lot of fun being involved in it!!!

  12. Your video is fabulous, Helene! It definitely had me holding my breath as I watched. Love to know which beach is featured :-). What a great prize pack. Good luck with the trailer.
