Well howdy, landlubbers

Ahoy me hearties, it’s me Zeus, the Salty Old Sea Dog. Capt G and Helene are snoring their heads off after a hectic couple of days. I have no idea why they find night sailing at all tiring or stressful. I thought it was pretty darned cool talking to the US Navy ships last night. And the helicopters and landing craft were excellent value too. Fun stuff πŸ™‚

We had a refuelling stop today and caught up with a lovely lady called Karen who not only brought fresh milk for Capt G, but also spent the whole visit patting me – what a woman!

Right now we’re rocking and rolling at Cape Capricorn, which was supposed to be a quiet night anchorage to recoup for the next sixty hour mission, but I can see one us is going to have to stay awake and that looks like it’s going to be me. Sheesh, it’s hard being the dog in this family….

Anyway, here are a couple of happy snaps – bit different to the tourism brochures HΓ©lΓ¨ne dishes up – enjoy.

Ciao for now πŸ™‚

xxx Zeus

  1. Nero and Bunsen, you’d love it aboard Roo Bin Esque – room for a comy bed, a dinner bowl, a stair master and an ever changing view!! Love the name of your tinny πŸ™‚

Zeus has opened one eye long enough to send his regards, viva CCS indeed!!!

  2. Oh Bron, you read my mind – we’re just wondering if Roo Bin Esque is now on a dangerous vessel list! Mind you, I understand them being a little jumpy since USS Cole took a hit…

  3. Noreen, the crew has been flat out this morning again! No sooner did we hoist full sails than 25 kts of breeze blew in and we had to reef! Love back to you from all on board πŸ™‚

  4. Brenda, Zeus is now sleeping off his night watch. He was very busy keeping an eye on the depth, responding to slapping noises in the night, and checking the anchor held when the wind changed through 180 degrees!

Capt G now reckons he should be the one taking the photos since clearly he can snap my best angle…

  5. Jenn, there I was hands on hips berating Capt G for tricking me into the water first! (This is a common occurrence and I can’t believe I fell for it one for time…)

But I was pretty impressed that Capt G could still fit a thirty year old wet suit πŸ™‚

  6. BROTHER!!!!! Good to hear about you on the high seas … glad you’re OK mate as we have been thinking of you.

Gabba has said you’re ‘taking the long way’ down the side of Queensland and to be honest, we’re finding it hard to get our heads around the whole thing.

Our 12 aluminium dinghy – The Salty Wench (which has never seen saltwater) is about as close as we’re gonna get to the high seas. It’s fun but we are keen to ‘relieve’ ourselves when we get out!!!

Take care Brother … viva CCS. Take care of Miss H, Capt G and keep a weather eye on the Horizon!!

    Cheeries Buddy

  7. Wow, Zeus! Calendar shots!!! Keep up the good work, you ol’ dog you! Bron xxx PS Hope you were taking notes last night – all those cool conversations could surface in one of Helene’s next books ….. you know, gorgeous, middle-aged couple, sailing their trim little catamaran crewed by a salty ol’ seadog through a convoy of US marines – but is all what it seems????

  8. No whales Helene and very few fish. It looks like the crew does the hard yards and the Captain gives the orders. Nice seeing and hearing about your adventures Zeus. Look after all on board.

  9. Well what a sexy look you’ve captured there Zeus πŸ˜‰ Your mum looks pretty neat! Glad you’ve got your humans under control…letting them sleep while you keep a weather eye out is worth a pat or three πŸ˜‰
