We had one last walk with Zeus before we retreated inside to wait out the night. The phone hasn’t stopped all day and as far as we can tell everyone we know is as well prepared as they can be. Down the beach front the water was washing up to the road, but as the Continue reading

And wait…
We turned the front of the house into a car yard. They provide more protection for our big glass doors and the recalcitrant roller door. Plus the added advantage of a quick escape if required… And then a man and a dog need a nap to recover 🙂
Hurry up and wait…
The windows are taped, the pool fence is wrapped, the garage roller door is braced. We’ve dropped off our valuable documents to friends with a storm bunker in their house and now we wait. On the drive back I took a photo of the Cook Highway (main road north out of Cairns) completely devoid of Continue reading
And so it continues
The plants are in – who knew we had so many… The glass pool fence is wrapped up like a giant Christmas present and I’ve just been on mid-west NSW ABC radio chatting about Yasi!
Morning before

This link will take you to a pretty spectacular satellite link that shows the extent of Yasi – http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/tropic2/real-time/austeast/movies/gmsirn/gmsirnjava.html How bad will it be? No-one knows that answer and the authorities Continue reading
The power of good company
Writing can be a solitary experience – FOR THE HUSBAND! What the? Hmm, seems husband is hell bent on hijacking my keyboard today… He’s now been banished to the couch and cricket!! (Go the Aussies!) As I was saying, writing can be quite lonely and yesterday was catch up time for the North Queensland RWA Continue reading

Writers on Rafts
The amazing folk at the Queensland Writers Centre were washed out of their new home in the State Library by the rising tide of the Brisbane River. Undaunted, and working from temporary offices, they’ve put together a fund raiser for the QLD Flood appeal. The list of prizes is huge with over 150 well known Continue reading
